S&W M&P Base Pad

  • The long front toe of the factory base pad kicks the magazine tube away from your hand, making it more difficult to get the correct index of the magazine tube in your hand.
  • The rebated front of the 10-8 base pad allows you get achieve the correct index of the magazine in your hand.
  • The long front toe of the factory base pad is also a snag hazard during speed reloads. It is common to draw the front magazine and snag the rear one, leaving one in your gun and one on the ground.
  • The scoop at the front allows you reach in and access the magazine for malfunction clearances.
  • The front scoop makes for easy stripping of stuck magazines.
  • The side scoops allow for improved purchase while stripping stuck magazines or performing tactical reloads.
  • The side scoops allow for improved purchase while stripping stuck magazines or performing tactical reloads.
  • If your magazine looks like this restricted capacity mag (photo courtesy S&W), our pads will not fit. Please note that the bottom of this tube is replaced by a block, with a "pad" molded in. We do not make anything compatible with these magazines.
  • This base pad will fit on the magazine for the 9c and 40c, but the pad is not intended for the Compact. You can see here that the pad is too long and will protrude at the front. The base pads will not allow the mag to lock in place on a .45. Sorry!

Product Description

Updated 08/06/2019: **The M&P 9 base pads are pending production after a short hiatus. We expect them back in about 8 weeks. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Fits full sized frame M&P models ONLY (fits all generations of full sized mags).

  • CNC machined from tough 6061 aluminum.
  • Bottom of the pad features 8 dimples for marking magazines.
  • Black anodized finish.
  • Weight is .5 ounces (factory is .2 ounces). Pads are legal in all divisions of IDPA and USPSA.

Here's the run down for the base pad and retainer compatibility, as it is a common area of confusion:

  • M&P 9/40/357, current production black magazine with square button plastic retainer: just order our pad
  • M&P 9/40/357, pre 2011 with old round hole retainer: use our current pad PLUS the square button retainer
  • M&P 9/40/357 VTAC and M&P 2.0 with tan factory pad and round hole retainer: use our current pad PLUS the square button retainer
  • M&P 45: all generations use round hole retainer, order just our pad

  • M&P 2.0 Compact - Front corners of pad will protrude
  • Aftermarket competition magazine wells
  • M&P Compact.  Pads will fit on M&P 9/40 Compact models, but pad is too large for the footprint of the shortened frame (see photo gallery)
  • Factory 10 round restricted capacity magazines, which have the bottom portion of the tube replaced by a large block (see pic in the gallery)

  1. Excellent product. 5 Star Review

These bases work as advertised. They make it possible to store multiple magazines in puches next to each other, facing the same direction (my preference is towards the firing hand). Being metal, they add a small amount of weight that I think aids in their removal during slidelock reloads (that is, they seem to fall more freely than the plastic bases). 10-8 and Apex have partnership to make the same bases in plastic, for less money, but I prefer the metal ones. It would also be possible to Dremel the factory originals to allow you to accomplish a similar (but definitely not the same) result. I bought these for my full-sized M&P45. Installation was a breeze: I just used a pen to depress the round tit (located on the bottom of the base pad) and slid the old base pad off; then slid the new ones on while keeping pressure on the floor plate. Easy peasy.

  2. These are great 5 Star Review

These base plated are just as S&W should have made them from the factory. A little pricey but worth it IMO.

  3. Even for the Compacts... 5 Star Review

Posted by on 18th Jul 2015

I've had a dozen of these for many years, 6 of the round and 6 of the square. They're on any magazine that's delegated for carry. Just picked up a 9c and was looking at the stubby stock flat plate and went and grabbed one of my 10-8 pads. To my surprise it fit. When in the gun it does create a "ledge" as the profile is square but the gun is round. This gives a bit of purchase and locks my fingers where they need to be and eliminates the bulk of the finger extension pad. Give it a try, you make find it works great!

  4. Still the best base pads available. 5 Star Review

Posted by on 16th Apr 2015

I have used these on my M&P45 for Every Day Carry and now have a couple for my M&P9. Though some mention the need for the square latch insert no longer available from 10-8, I used the stock S&W part from a bunch of magazines I ordered from 44mag.com. Yep, they all had the square latch, so I don't need to scrounge the internet for a discontinued 10-8 part. The base pads? They are still the best as far as smaller footprint and strength, so they will not hang up in standard magazine carriers.

  5. Excellent product 5 Star Review

This is my first 10-8 performance product. This fit perfectly on my M&P magazine and functions well like the stock pad but IMO, looks much better than stock. The quality is top notch. I will be purchasing more in the future

  6. One good, one sticky 3 Star Review

Posted by on 23rd Jan 2015

The first base pad went on like butter, The second base pad I tried to put on 3 different magazines, it was getting stuck trying to slide it on. Eventually I got it on the magazine but it was a very tight fit, but hey it's there. no problem. The magazines were in good shape, i'm not sure what it was, maybe the gap that the mag slides into was tighter than the other one. Had to use a hammer to get it on, but once it snapped on all the way, it was solid and the plastic locked into place it was ok, a little marred, and scratched, but it works fine.

  7. Solid Design 4 Star Review

Posted by on 17th Oct 2014

By far better than factory base pads. Not to mention the fact they feel much more robust and are better looking. Since I haven't used them a lot I'm not quite sure they're worth 20 bucks a piece yet. I purchased 6 of them anyways based on reviews. I like them very much and if they stand the abuse I'm going to dish out on them over the next few months I will order them for any M&P mags I buy in the future.

  8. Thoughtfull and Effective Design, Great Execution 4 Star Review

Posted by on 11th Sep 2014

These are great! I can strip the mags much easier, they're tough enough to take drops, and I like the different colors. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 is because the price is high (there should be poly models available as with the Glocks) and because 10-8 doesn't stock the needed base pad retainers needed to install them.

  9. fixes problems, doesn't cause more 5 Star Review

Posted by on 11th Aug 2014

I usually carry several mags stacked as close as possible. Stock base plates get stuck on each other. I have a few alternate baseplates, many don't fit right, they wobble. These fit well and do not hang up on each other. I got 5 to start, I'm DEFINATELY getting more.

  10. Kickass 5 Star Review

Little pricey but I will be outfitting all of my magazines with these basepads. For and finish is great, fast shipping. Top notch product
