The 10-8 Performance 1911 extended magazine catch features additional length of approximately .045" over a stock catch, and a unique 30lpi serrated curved button surface for positive activation. This magazine catch also features a number of other features that make it more than just cosmetically unique.

-Machined from bar stock. Not cast or MIM.

-Interior of the catch is relieved to prevent trapping of the magazine when the button is pressed.

-Flat right side of the catch is slightly overlength to permit filing to a flush fit with the flat surface of your frame.

-Catch ledge is raised .010" for better magazine positioning relative to feed ramp.

-Spring tunnel dimensions are improved over Gen 1 catches, to provide a softer feel when pressed.

Tumbled, then bead blasted for a matte finish with soft dehorned edges.

Carbon steel version has black oxide finish.

Stainless steel version has matte blasted finish.

Does not include spring or catch lock.

Not all 1911 frames are made to the same dimensions. This part may require some fitting to ensure proper fit and function in your frame.

Nice, but read this review (PART TWO)

Bought a second one as I removed too much of the shelf of the first one during fitment into my Dan Wesson Specialist. All the mags would fall out after firing a few rounds. This time around the second mag catch required 0 fitting and dropped right in and worked with all my magazines from the beginning. Second times a charm apparently.

These are standard in my 1911 HARD USE builds.

I hold a manufacturing FFL. I build custom 1911's, an introductory level model, and a HARD USE tactical model. The HARD USE builds says it all. As every part is rated either Hardcore, heavy duty, or extreme service. And this tactical extended magazine catch by 10-8 Performance is the standard part for my Hard Use builds. Why, because it works! The sloped angle let's you conceal carry in tight places without worry of releasing the magazine from the pistol. Like other extended magazine catches have a habit of doing. And it is a TOUGH part. It can stand up to HARD USE, without the retaining lip wearing to a point where your mags start to fit sloppy in the gun. A great part, an expensive part, but quality isn't cheap.

    Nice, but read this review.

PROS: Nice, quality CNC'd Part. CONS: Slightly darker stainless then I'm used to (almost a nickel color) and has swirl marks like it was barely bead blasted after it was machined. Looks off color compared to my frame. Other: Catch ledge was a little bit high and required me to file it so it would fit my WC magazines. This is not a con as it was stated that it may require fitting. It did and it now gets the job done. This is actually a plus for loose tolerance cast frames from Brazil. On a tight tolerance high end 1911 you WILL have to fit it. You might get away with it on a Springer or Rock Island, etc. 4/5 for being a weird color and having swirl marks.

best mag catch for a 1911

I have this mag catch on all 5 of my 1911 works great I wouldn't run anything else on a 1911 if you get this get the grips too they really work well together

    Mag Catch

I have installed the 10-8 Performance mag catch on two different pistols now, one stainless and the other carbon steel. The angled cut makes for a much more natural and positive release.

    good quality but awkward angle

This part is well made but came very oversized for my Springfield TRP. It took about an hour of fitting but I was working slowly and carefully. The end result was a good fit and smooth operation. The angled button face is somewhat awkward for me. I ran 150 rds through the gun and I felt I had to pay more attention to my mag changes. I'll give it a few more sessions, but I'm leaning towards swapping back to the stock piece.

    Great Product

As anticipated, the unit required fitting, and in my case, approximately 2 hours of fitting to a Springfield Professional, which entailed removing material from the circumference of the keyhole, then stoned the face of the keyhole until it was flush with the frame. I found the angle beneficial, and the extension adequate, especially when used in conjunction with a thumb notch or super scoop grip panel. Remain mindful that if you purchase the carbon steel version and it requires fitting, especially to the face of the keyhole, the unit will need to be refinished, which I anticipated.

    Magnificent Mag Catch

The 10-8 mag catch gives a subtle extension and properly clever angle for a very positive engagement, especially if you're big handed and just as well if you're not. I've used two, both have dropped in, however, both have needed cleaning up with various lapping to get a smooth action - check out the Foxtrot photo album on 10-8's Facebook for hints. I can appreciate the slight over size to accommodate a true custom fit to frame, classy look. In conjunction with a super scoop, the 10-8 mag catch really enhances weapon manipulations. Recommended.

    10-8 Performance extended magazine catch

Fit was very tight, a little Frog lube and some vigorous repeated pressing and it smoothed out. ?Neat design, works well without having to change grip.
