Chip McCormick Custom black PowerMag, 8 round, with 10-8 Performance Base Pad.
The Chip McCormick black Power Mag is a new design introduced for 2011, and features a new tube formed from carbon steel with a black oxide finish. This magazine features the original style Power Mag follower. The CMC PowerMag 8 round has long been Hilton's top pick as a duty magazine, and we are proud to bring this setup to you!
The base pad is CNC machined from tough 6061 aluminum for maximum durability. Designed in conjunction with Chip McCormick, this base pad combines the slim profile of a flush fit base pad with the capability of the extended bumper pads. The rear of the base pad is thin and low profile in the back where you don't need the material, but is extended up front to provide a positive index in the hand during loading and manipulation. The pad allows you to fully seat the magazine with an extended magazine well, while providing a slim profile for carry. The front of the pad sticks out just enough to allow you to easily pull on it either for ensuring the mag is seated or for malfunction clearance. The bottom of the pad features 8 dimples for marking your magazines. Black anodized finish.
Sold with 10-8 pad installed, and CMC factory plastic .350" pad is included. Save $9.25 off the combined retail price of both items!!!

CMC Powermags are a known quantity, so this review is the combo of the basepad and mag. Package contains the mag with the new baseplate attached. Also includes the original CMC base pad. The pad is a slightly shorter than the CMC pad but also gets taller from back to front. This means the pad sits flush with the bottom of a S&A Magwell except for the front lip. I found during casual testing that I had to make a concerted effort to ensure the magazine was fully seated during a rapid magazine change and not left out of battery. It does make for a slightly lower profile and therefore a plus for concealed carry. If you CC a 1911, I would get 1 or 2 but no more at $20+ each. For competition, I would stick with the extended rubber bumper pads.
