  • Use the block to tension the extractor - insert into the hole and apply the necessary tension.
  • You can also drop the extractor all the way through the block as a quick fixture for filing claw geometry.
  • The extractor hole makes it easier to work on the part when you are out at the range, where test firing and extractor tension adjustment tends to take place.
  • A stripped frame can be laid flat on the block, facing either way. Relief cuts at the bottom accommodate common weld-on magazine wells.
  • The block is relieved for the plunger tube, so a complete frame can be laid on the block on either side.
  • Two blocks can be used together to clamp the frame for slide/frame fitting.
  • The center channel fits the barrel for link pin removal or staking. Use the holes to capture your link pin.
  • Use the included pins to observe the relationship between the hammer and sear.
  • Use the included pins to observe the relationship between the hammer and sear.
  • Also use this area to stake or remove the hammer strut pin.
  • Turn your mainspring housing upside down to depress the mainspring cap and punch out the retainer pin.
  • Insert a thumb safety for fitting the engagement surface of the sear stop stud.
  • Simply insert the safety and file parallel to the top of the block. What is normally a tricky clamping setup and difficult angle to set is now a simple task.
  • Insert a thumb safety for adjusting the engagement surface of the detent face.

This 4"x4"x1.25" block is CNC machined from super tough nylon, and will give years of service.  Whatever you might wish to do to your 1911 using hand tools, this block will help you do it. The block comes with hammer and sear fixture pins.

Some of the built in features of the block (see photo gallery):

  • extractor tensioning
  • extractor claw profiling
  • holding the frame flat
  • 2 blocks can hold the frame for slide/frame fitting

  • hammer/sear pin fixture, included
  • mainspring housing assembly/disassembly

This block is so handy it is even used by Colt in their 1911 armorer courses!

  1. Must have!

Posted by Michael Starmer on 23rd Feb 2012

Saw this and noticed the edge set up for fitting the thumb safety to sear! Worth the price alone just to help get a perfect fit every time. Does more than most, a little pricey but as stated will last several life times!

  2. Makes a lot of jobs easy!

I love this block! Makes it so easy to work on the hammer and sear! Definitely will buy another when I get a chance to build a 1911!

  3. Best Tool Ever

Every 1911 enthusiast should have one and any 1911 hobbyist should have two - I'm about to order another. It was well thought out and unless you like to throw your shop tools down a gravel driveway, it should last forever. In fact this might survive several trips down the gravel driveway.

  4. My favorite shop tool

This is a MUST HAVE for anyone working on a 1911.
