Product Description

Our National Match style rear sight is designed to fit into the dovetail of GI pattern 1911 pistols.  Its extra thick serrated blade is .315" tall for compatibility with new production Colts, and features a .140" wide U notch. User installable (with some hand fitting), no machining required.  The newly revised design includes a more rounded profile and additional edge chamfers to improve comfort for handling and carry.

  • FITS: GI pattern dovetails such as Colt and Springfield Armory with GI pattern sights.
  • Compatible with: front sights of .175-.185" height.
Is direct replacement for Colt, Springfield Armory, and other 1911s with GI/Milspec rear dovetail. Compatible with factory front sight on Colt 1991A1, new production Series 70 reproduction, and Springfield Armory Milspec models, and does not affect point of impact.
**Be aware that older production Colts with the very low GI style "thumbnail" front sight will require a taller front sight to work with this rear. Machining of the slide is typically necessary and recommended to install a modern dovetail front sight. We neither recommend nor know of any options for traditional style staked on front sights. High profile staked on fronts were bad when we had them in the 80's - they fell off a lot due to the extra weight/inertia from the mass - and they are not any better of any option now that we have dovetailed fronts available.

  1. The way it should have come from Colt 5 Star Review

Posted by on 27th Sep 2019

The tiny GI-style rear sight on my '98-issue Commander was shredding the lining of my suit coats and was impossible to see during combat shooting. I was convinced I would need to replace both front and rear sights. The 10-8 NM sight was an easy fit with a few minutes of work with a fine India stone. The finish matched up perfect with my Colt, the no-snag design doesn't tear up my cover garments, and it's perfect for one-handed charging if my support hand gets injured. Best of all, I discovered I didn't need to replace my front sight because the NM rear sight has a much larger U-shaped notch that makes it substantially easier to pick up the front sight during fast shooting. I'm not one for flamboyant Gucci-gear mods on a pistol design that JMB got right 100+ years ago, and this sight is everything I want on a real combat piece. I stake my life on this gun, and the fact that it wears a 10-8 Performance NM rear sight is the highest praise I could possibly give.

  2. 3rd set of NM sights 5 Star Review

Posted by on 18th Jun 2019

As always 10-8 sights are the best! back in 80s all I used on my 1911s were Bomar, once my Dept clear us us to carry 1911s for concealed carry I tried out my first set of 10-8 U notch rears with a gold dot front and that is all I have run since the the very first days of 10-8! Now that my kids are buying their own firearms their now using 10-8 set ups.
Thank you Hilton for providing us with a great product!

  3. Just what the doctor ordered 5 Star Review

Took some needle filing and whetstone work but fits great and looks much better than the factory white dot. The larger "U" notch gives a much clearer and faster sight picture. I wanted a "drop in" because i didn't want to cut the slide on my Colt Combat Commander..this fit the bill perfectly! Couldn't be happier.

  4. Drop In fit for GI dovetail - SA 1911A1 Mil-Spec 5 Star Review

Title says it all. Good price, high quality, and no hand fitting.

  5. great 5 Star Review

Required a lot of fitting but the dovetail angles were right on so it fits great

Really nice wide, deep sight notch for fast shooting

  6. Better late than never! 5 Star Review

I find it amazing, but this sight concept was thought of by NYPD's Jim Cirillo (RIP) whom I trained under back in the nineties. Jim brought his concept to the attention to Ashley Emerson former owner of XS Sights. Apparently Emerson preferred the express sight Vee/Big Dot instead of the Big Dot sitting in the U-notch... their loss. I've tried XS sights... I could not get use to them. Then I found 10-8 Performance and a U-notch sight which now sits in the dovetail of my Commander with a white dot front sight resting comfortably in the U. Its so natural!

  7. Great sight 5 Star Review

Installed on a 70 series Colt Government 1911 - fit and function is great. Used in conjuction with .185 front sight.

  8. Very Nice Sight 5 Star Review

Posted by on 3rd Aug 2016

Used this to replace the rear sight on a 5" 1991 A1 Colt slide. Takes a small amount of fitting but worth it when installed. Great sight pic and works well with OEM staked .185 front . Does not snag, enough of a shelf for one handed slide racking, windage adjustable and a set screw to keep it where you put it. If you are looking for an upgrade that is straight forward, effective and simple to install on a Colt spec slide dovetail this replacement sight is the one to choose.

  9. works good for me 5 Star Review

Posted by on 29th May 2016

I like this sight because it is simple and sturdy. It is relatively small compared to other sights that seem to stick out too far. This one matches the design and fits perfectly with the appearance of my Colt combat commander. And gives a good sight picture when combined with the .180 OEM type front sight.

  10. Truly premium product 5 Star Review

Posted by on 20th Feb 2015

Excellent machining, excellent finish, close initial fit, and expertly designed are all descriptive of this sight. In addition to these factors, this sight is also very reasonably priced. Overall, it is one of the best values when buying a GI rear sight. I absolutely love the attention to detail, as indicated by the nicely performed radius on the edges of the sight. I love it.
