Product Description

The 10-8 Performance rear sight is precision CNC machined from heat treated 4140 bar stock to better resist the nicking and denting that is typical with the wear and tear of daily carry. All 10-8 sights feature a U notch for rapid, intuitive alignment with dot such as on our tritium insert and fiber optic front sights. The rear face is serrated at 40 lpi to reduce glare in varied lighting conditions.  The sight blade is thick enough to allow setting in tritium vials as dots or bars if one so chooses, but we recommend leaving them without inserts in order to draw the eye toward the front sight.  The sight body is contoured and dehorned for comfortable handling and carry.  All rear sights feature a plain black blade finished in matte black oxide.

  • FITS: Novak LoMount ® dovetail
  • Notch widths:
    • .125" - preferred for greatest accuracy
    • .140" - most popular, good all purpose width
    • .156" - fastest notch for .125" wide front blades or XS Dot front sights
      • Choose the .156" notch, .325" height to use with the XS Standard Dot for 1911, which is .185" tall.

Most factory sight setups feature a rear notch that is the same width as the front blade - ie. typically a .125" wide rear notch with .125" wide front sight.  This type of setup provides a relatively tight visual window that optimizes precision for maximum accuracy.  For most shooters with good vision, this combination works fine.  An increasingly popular combination is the .140" rear notch with a .125" width front blade.  For most shooters, this combination offers improved speed on close range targets without degrading perceived accuracy out to 25 yards.  The .156" extra wide notch is compatible with the XS Standard Dot (.110” width) or XS Big Dot (.161” width)  front sights, and also makes for a very quick combination in conjunction with our .125" wide front sights.  Our recommended "signature" set is the .140" wide rear notch with a .100" wide fiber optic front, or the .156" rear with the .125" brass bead front.

Our 02 series sights will fit into the popular Novak LoMount ® dovetail, which is found on fixed sight 1911s offered by Wilson Combat, Rock River, Dan Wesson, Ed Brown, Springfield Armory, Colt (XSE series, Gunsite, Rail Gun, M45, Defender), Nighthawk, Les Baer, DoubleStar, STI, Sig (GSR and 1911s), Rock Island Armory, Ruger, and others.  They will fit your slide with only hand fitting of the sight if the dovetail is already cut, otherwise your slide will need to be machined.

**The 02 series sights DO NOT fit: Kimber, ParaOrdnance, Taurus, Magnum Research, or S&W 1911s.  The Kimber and Magnum Research 1911s take  Kimber Front and Rear Sights, and are not compatible. We no longer offer front/rear sights for the Kimber.

The rear sights are available in heights to match your existing rear sight height, and will therefore be directly compatible with your existing front sight.  You will want to measure your existing rear sight before ordering.  If your gun already has a LoMount style rear sight on it, our rear sight will be directly compatible with your existing front sight in both height and width.

Please note that Springfield Armory fixed sight 1911s (Loaded, TRP, Professional, EMP) use both .325" and .375" tall sights.  It is not possible for us to predict what is on your gun, as each individual sample can vary without regard for model number etc.  It is best for you to measure the sight on YOUR gun to be sure.

Choose from .325" ("standard") blade height or .375" ("extra tall") blade height (most common on Officer/Defender length 1911s or various Springfield fixed sight 1911s). The .375" is now only available in .140" notch.

The left front of the sight has a small angle machined into it. This is for easier installation, and is not a machining error.

Please note that 1911 Low Mount dovetails vary wildly in dimensions. Our sights are meant to provide an interference fit, and not be dependent on the set screw for retention. It is not uncommon for some dovetails to be too large for our sight.

  1. Heck yeah !! 5 Star Review

Perfect fit and function for my Springfield Armory Lightweight champion operator. Paired this rear with a Dawson precision front fiber optic and its perfect combination for me . Really helped with my accuracy since I can finally see the front sight . Thanks 10-8 !

  2. Dependable 5 Star Review

Sights are some of the first changes any serious shooter will make to their firearm. Doesn't matter why you shoot competition, LEO/MIL, personal defense/offense. If you want to get the most out that investment upgrade the sights. I chose this set because of 10-8's reputation for having dependable parts that work. I have their National Match rear sight on another 1911 and now I have this one. Easy to install if you take your time and are fairly competent with hand tools and understand what you're doing. They fit well and work perfectly. This rear sight replace the adjustable rear sight that has the two springs. Too many moving parts too many ways to go wrong. Upgraded sights don't make you a better shooter, they make the pistol more "shootable".

  3. As it's written. 5 Star Review

.325/.140 U notch rear sight. Just what I've been looking for. Excellent fit for my SIG Nightmare Carry. Works with the factory front sight. Allows one handed munipulation. Completes my EDC pistol. Great value. Thanks 10-8.

  4. Essential upgrade. 5 Star Review

I have used 10-8 sights on my 1911 for a few years now. I recent upgraded the rear sight on my Springfield EMP 4" with installing the .325/ .140 U knotch. It gives my favorite sight picture and shoots POA at 10 yards with S&B or Geco 115gr.

  5. Just the thing! 5 Star Review

For a quality 1911 rear sight, this rugged item is the way to go. Mine went on a competition gun. An adjustable rear is the choice of many competitors, but it's not very difficult to set up fixed sights to get your hits right where you want them.

  6. The best sight in the business! 5 Star Review

I first tried the u-notch rear sight several years ago and instantly realized the increase in speed it provided. Now ALL my 1911's wear them! Combine this with a fiber optic front sight and it's an unbeatable combination.

  7. Poor fit. 2 Star Review

Posted by on 21st Jan 2015

The sight has no fit tension in the factory Sig GSR rear dovetail. None, not even a hint. There is only one set screw to hold the sight in place. With no tension from the dovetail they should use two set screws to ensure the sight is secure. It's near impossible to adjust the rear sight. It moves so easily you can't regulate it. The sight will move as you loosen the set screw, then you have to guess how much it moved and which way, then try to adjust it the other way, and then try to insert the allen wrench and tighten the set screw, all the while trying to not let the sight move again on its own. nice sight, poor design execution.

  8. Stellar once again 5 Star Review

10-8 Delivers excellent quality yet again, ordered the tall .125 sight, fit and finish is top notch as i have come to expect with 10-8, acquiring the front sight is a breeze and simply works better in my opinion with the U notch vs a square notch, the .125 offers a small bit of space between the rear sight and the front sight, great for accuracy, and easy for my 22 year old eyes to acquire quickly, if you have older eyes or not so great vision i would recommend the .140. love the serrations on the rear of the sight, as well as the notch for single hand manipulations, would certainly recommend this to anyone looking for a replacement for their 1911 rear sight, and I will certainly use this on future 1911s.

  9. 10-8 Rear Sights are the Best 5 Star Review

Posted by on 28th Jan 2014

I love 10-8 Rear Sights I'm a big fan of Serrated Rear Sights and U-Notch. My typical set-up is a 1:2:1 or a 1:1:1 meaning the sight picture on both sides of the front sight picture is equal to or half the width of the front sight. If you are one of those guys who like to rack the slide one-handed then a 10-8 Rear sight is just for you.

  10. Springfield mc operator 5 Star Review

Posted by on 25th Jan 2014

Shipped fast I ordered the .325 tall with the .140 notch for use with the 10/8 brass bead front sight. Fit and finish is excellent, the sight fit tight, I had to drive it in the dovetail with a punch. Sight picture is also excellent very easy to line up that brass bead in the u notch. Haven't taken it out for a test ride yet but I'm sure they won't let me down. It's the only rear sight I recommend to my buddies anymore.
