Product Description

1911 Dovetail Front Sight, .330"x.075"x65 degree (aka "Novak") dovetail, drilled for front roll pin. Our 1911 front sights are made from hardened 4140 bar stock for improved durability. Brass bead sights feature a narrowed front section to provide a clean sight picture even if the forward part of the blade is dinged up or dirty. All blades feature a 40lpi serrated front face for reduction of glare in all lighting conditions.

  • FITS: "Novak" .330" x .075" x 65 degree dovetail
    • WILL FIT: 1911 front dovetails from Nighthawk, Novak, Les Baer, Ed Brown, Rock River, Sig, Rock Island Arsenal and others. If you are not sure what height and dovetail dimensions you have, it is best to measure and/or consult with your pistol's manufacturer. Unmodified slides will require machining.  We do not guarantee exact fit in all the listed 1911s as each vendor cuts their dovetails to slightly different dimensions.  Please note that the roll pin hole location varies widely, and there may be a slight mismatch between our pin hole and whatever has been drilled in your slide.
    • WILL NOT FIT: Kimber, Springfield Armory, Wilson Combat, Colt (all models, including XSE, Special Combat Government, Defender, Gunsite, Rail Gun, etc. - Colt has changed their spec so many times and ways that we cannot predict what is going on with your gun), Dan Wesson, STI, SVI, Ruger 1911, Magnum Research.
  • Heights: .175", .185", and .195" blade height.
    • Measure your existing front sight if retrofitting or check with your gunsmith for height suggestions when scratch building.
      • If matching "in between" sizes (.180" for example), use the next shorter size (.175") and it'll shoot about 1/2" higher at 25 yards.
    • Please note that each manufacturer and individual guns will vary in regards to what height is used, and there is no set standard height.
    • .007" of sight height equates to roughly 1" of elevation change at 25 yards.
      • TALLER front = LOWER point of impact
      • SHORTER front = HIGHER point of impact
    • PLEASE NOTE THAT WE CANNOT TELL YOU WHAT HEIGHT TO USE ON YOUR GUN, AS EVERY 1911 IS GOING TO BE DIFFERENT.
      • If you must guess what height to use, try .185" as a starting point.

Fiber Optic Sight has .125" wide blade, accepts .060" fiber optic rod (.075" diameter on blade face).  Comes with 1 each red and green fiber rods.

Brass Bead has .075" diameter brass bead insert with domed face.

Black oxide finish blade, .125" width, includes stainless roll pin.

  1. 1911 Brass Bead Front Sight 5 Star Review

Posted by on 10th Jan 2013

Not being a fan of 3 dot sights I replaced the front sight on my AC Commander with this sight. The brass bead is an eye catcher and tends to draw your focus to the front sight (a good thing). Combined with 10-8's low mount rear sight (plain black - no dots) and you have it all.

  2. 1911 Gold Bead Front Sight 5 Star Review

Posted by on 1st Jan 2013

I am a "BIG FAN" of 10-8 Performance products and the 1911 gold bead front sight is no exception. I finally received my Springer Mil-Spec back from the smith and "WOW" what a difference. I have it matched up with the 10-8 Mil rear sight and together they are awesome. Love those sights. Keep up the good work 10-8!

  3. Gold Bead Front _U Notch Rear for 1911 5 Star Review

Posted by on 31st Dec 2012

At 50, my eyes aren't the best but they certainly can pick up the gold bead on this front sight in the dimmest of light. Since there's no light rail on my Les Baer 1911 and I would be using my Surefire in the weak hand, night sights weren't of no real benefit during the day over the gold bead. Love it. As with anything...practice! I go to the range at least twice a month to train with my firearms as well as perform home scenario drills with my wife. You don't want your first experience to be the with the bad guy. Buy this setup!

  4. Great All Around Sight 5 Star Review

I ordered the Brass Bead Front Sight for my Retro 1911 Build. Excellent quality. Works in a wide range of conditions. Helps older eyes in both day and night conditions.

  6. New sights for an old favorite project 1911 5 Star Review

Posted by on 2nd Jul 2012

I have a Rock Island Tactical I've used for a number of years. I've used it as a project gun by adding quality parts as I see proven designs.
I decided to add 10-8 front and rear sights and now have them installed. The dovetail on an RIA does not fit the 10-8 configuration but after a bit of file work and polishing they are nicely fitted.
In short I doubt I'll use any other sights from now on. The fiber optic is very well made and aids a great deal in concentrating on that front sight when used with the 10-8 rear sight with a .140 notch.
It sure has speeded up my target acquisition!

  7. Brass Bead Front Sight 5 Star Review

Posted by on 28th Jun 2012

This is my third Brass Bead Sight. I ordered this one for a retro 1911 build. They show up for my old guy eyes and provide a fast and accurate sight picture. As with all 10-8 products, the quality is exceptional.

  8. Brass Bead Insert Front Sight is Exceptional 5 Star Review

Posted by on 7th Jun 2011

I've been shooting for over 35 years and my eyesight is not what it used to be. Achieving a fast and reliable sight picture on my 1911s has gotten tougher as I've moved from regular glasses to bifocals and now to progressive lenses. Night sights didn't help at all and in fact, made things worse when shooting in bright sunlight. The brass bead insert on the 10-8 front sight along with the flat-black serrations on the rear sight were just what the doctor ordered. Now I can draw, press and acquire a good sight picture just like I could in my younger days. The brass bead catches the light just enough to be readily visible without glare. It's made shooting my 1911 enjoyable once again.
